Sugar maple, yesterday

There are two maple trees in our front lawn, one of which I believe is a sugar maple. Whatever it is, it turns the most brilliant orange in the fall. Although it isn’t quite as spectacular this year as in years past, it’s still quite pretty. Unfortunately it might just have peaked yesterday (although there was still some green in it). I only got a couple pictures of it, and none at sunset, when I really wanted to. I do like this picture from yesterday morning as the sun was rising over the trees, when it had just hit the top of this maple.

  1. Very pretty. Sometimes, though, fall colors pop most beautifully with a light overcast–I don’t know why. The shadows cast by the sun mute the colors and the sun itself washes out some of the yellow. So I often look for those soft-lit days to bring out the intensity of fall color. Catching this at first light though is gorgeous. Nice job.
