The spoils from the Saturday farmers market, truly the greatest market of the week.

Morning glories
It took some time, but the morning glories are now blooming. I think I prefer the look of the flower unopened to opened. That’s because the former, in its fully furled-up stage, looks like a magical unicorn horn made out of candy and rainbows. And it still looks quite nice and delicate as it’s beginning to open.
It rained earlier today, so that was novel.
In other growing things news, here is some salsa I made with a variety of grape and cherry tomatoes from the farm.
And here is the first pumpkin from one of my vines. A stiff wind could knock it over, but I love it anyway.
Minnesota State Fair: parts 2 and 3
I made it to the State Fair three times this year, which is not excessive at all. The set of pictures from my first, briefest trip isĀ here.
Catching up
Well, I’ve let things slide again, picture-wise. I haven’t felt ambitious enough to take too many pictures of anything, although I did snap a picture or two of some incidental things with my phone over the last couple days.
It was terribly hot on Thursday so I sought out some refreshment at the end of the day. For some reason, every time I buy frozen yogurt from this place, I feel compelled to document the finished product. Next year I’ll probably just buy a frozen yogurt every day and take pictures of nothing but that.
This is why I have been too tired to take any other pictures. Here are many of the cherry tomatoes I picked over the course of the week.
I shall be going back to the fair soon, and expect to return with pictures of many grain-related curiosities and livestock.
August 29th pictures
Today I went and took pictures of stuff growing along the road. The sumac’s starting to turn and look mighty pretty. Here are some of those pictures:
August 28th
The last few days have been brassica-centric (Brassicaceae being the family of that most redolent group of vegetables, cabbage, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, and many others). I’ve been admiring the kale and the purple cabbage out in the field in particular — the kale because the plants, having been periodically harvested, now look like funny little crinkly palm trees, and the cabbage because look at it, it’s pretty.
August 26th: The Great Minnesota Get-Together
Some pictures from the all-too-brief hours I spent at the State Fair this morning. More when I return there next weekend. It will be pretty gratuitous. I’m excited.
August 24th
Time for a wandering about the garden as fall advances. Many things are winding down, but not everything.
Here’s the backyard garden and multitude of leaves that have already fallen.
August 21st – 23rd
It’s been phone pictures only the last three days. On one of them, we were treated to about ten minutes’ worth of rain. It looked a little more promising than that as I went to pick tomatoes, though.
August 20th
This Saturday, I went to the local farmers market and, inspired by the flower-growing vendors, had a sudden insatiable urge to arrange some flowers. I’m definitely a flower person. Not so much a flower arranging person. So I just threw some things together and somewhere, florists wept. I particularly liked my goldenrod/Chinese lantern bouquet.
But wait. What is that young upstart bouquet in the background?
